Matrix: Protection from PoE on non-PoE devices
Question:
We have some V series panels close to other, PoE equipment. I'm concerned that RJ45s could be accidentally swapped and expose our V series panels to PoE/PoE+.
Will the Matrix (Analogue), Expansion and Ethernet ports survive being connected to PoE, or should I take precautions to prevent this from happening? I couldn't find anything about this in the handbook.
Similarly, would a mistaken connection of PoE to an Eclipse-HX matrix (MVX-A16, IVC-32 or control cards) cause damage?
Answer:
PoE sources tend to be active and therefore would not provide power unless negotiated with the receiving equipment. In the case of active PoE there is no risk to our products. If the PoE is a passive source (i.e.There is always power on the pins), then steps should be taken to avoid plugging this into the various non-PoE ports. There is no specific protection against 48 V.
