Matrix: Not able to download to Eclipse-Hx matrix after upgrading to V9.0
Interesting issue, I have upgraded two Omegaframes from (ECS 5.2 to EHX v9.1).I can easily download to either framewhen directly connected to LAN1 for each frame with multiple computersdirectly, However when I have both tied to a100MB un-managed switch or using a smart managed switch the frame that isfurther away from the PC will not download properly, PC >>Main Switch >>10m toFrame 1 Main switch >> 92m to Frame2 The download for frame 2 starts, butstops half way through and gives me a HCI socket error message. One frame is located next to switch andthe other frame is connected via CAT-5 run of approximately 300 ft.(approx.92m). Used to work fine prior to EHX v9.1upgrade.Interestingly, I can upload the configurationsfrom both frames easily, I can change IP addressing on both frames easily, bothframes can run diagnostics and generate logs. Solution This issue can be split into twoseparate problems: a) Main switch >> 92m to Frame2The maximum lengthbetween two Ethernet devices over CAT5 cable is 100m (328ft) max. The distance of 92m(300ft) is very close to the maximum length of 100m.. Therefore by adding asecond (2nd) switch close to the Frame 2 . The customerresolved the problem. Main switch >>70m to 2nd Switch >>20m to Frame 2. b) One of the new features added to theEHX v9.0 was to change the download mechanism from UDP to TCP. Post EHX v8.8 alldownloads now use the TCP method. Using the UDP method the EHX PC mainapplication checked the each packet sent and waited for an acknowledgementfrom the frame before sending the next packet This slowed down the map downloadprocess. Using the TCP method, the download mappayload mechanism is taken care off automatically as part of thenormal TCP/ IP process (protocol) and no longer under the control of the mainEHX PC application. TCP allows for sending multiple packets before waitingfor an acknowledgement and controlling the map download paylodTherefore making it faster and more reliable. However the main EHX PC application didnot check the TCP buffers and overloaded them, which can cause thedownload to also fail The TCP download function has beenfixed in a patch for V9.1 and also in EHX v10 and later. *If following an Eclipse upgrade to v8.8or v9.0 and there is an issues with the downloads, please apply the v9.1 patchor upgrade to v10 and later .
