How do I upgrade the Gemini software?

Step-by-step directions on how to upgrade the Gemini Software.

Step-by-step guide

To install a new version of Gemini software please carry out the following steps:

Before commencing the upgrade, browse to each Gemini host and check the status page to ensure each host is not showing any errors.

Open the ‘Active Clients’ screen on the Gateway Editor and ensure all the hosts are reported on the screen. If all is okay proceed to step one.

1. On the Gateway Editor/Database Supervisor PC, first make a note of which configuration file you have currently running on the Gemini system so after installing the new version of the Gateway Configuration Editor you will know which configuration file to load.

2. If the upgrade is going from version V4.*.*.* to version V5.*.*.* first manually uninstall the V4 version using the ‘Trilogy Uninstall V4’ application in the Trilogy folder from the Windows Start menu.

3. Next copy the new installer version to the C:\Trilogy|Installation Files\ folder on the Gateway Editor PC. Ensure you have administration rights and launch the ‘TrilogyV5setup.exe’ from the installation folder. If the PC has an earlier version of V5 installed, on launching the installer it will detect a version is already installed and offer to un-install the current version automatically. Accept by choosing ‘Yes’ to continue. Do not check the checkbox to choose to ‘delete application data’. If this box is checked you will need to re-enter a key code when the editor is first launched. Click ‘Uninstall’ and then ‘Finish’ when the uninstaller completes. The Installer will now launch.

4. Choose next to continue, on the first screen choose ‘Installation’.

5. On the ‘Quick or Customised Upgrade’ screen choose ‘Customised’. On the ‘Selected components’ choose ‘Configuration Editor’, ‘Database Supervisor’ and ‘Gemini Software’ only. The only exception is if you are using the Virtual Panel or USB box options, in which case check these options also. Do not install components which are not appropriate to your system – these will consume resources and degrade the performance of your PC.

6. Click next through the remaining screens to complete the install.

7. Once the install is finished launch the Gateway Editor and from the File/Load menu load the configuration file noted in step 1. If upgrading from an earlier V4 version a pop-up message will advise that it cannot load a couple of data tables, these relating to new features in the later version. The message is harmless and the new table will be automatically be created so just click ‘OK’ to continue.

8. From the Gateway Editor, select ‘Tools>Gemini Upgrade’ to launch the Gemini Upgrade wizard.

9. The screen shows the Gemini hosts connected to the system, check the checkbox for each host to deploy the upgrade. Select the ‘Gemini Upgrade’ button and browse to the C:\Program Files\Trilogy\Trilogy V5\GeminiSoftware\ folder and select the file install.zip. Ensure you do not choose the file named install-bt.zip. On a 64 bit Windows PC, the file is located under C:\Program Files (x86). Now click ‘apply’ to install the new Gemini firmware. Please note this will take each host offline for approximately 5 minutes whilst the new firmware is flashed into the Gemini host. A progress indicator will tell you when the update is complete.

10. From the Gateway Editor ‘Upload’ and the ‘Restart’ the configuration to the Gemini hosts.

11. Finally browse to each host and check the Help>About page to confirm the upgrade has been installed and check the Status page to ensure the system is functioning correctly.
