FSII and Edge IPTs standalone site survey mode

When planning installation, it can be useful to use the FreeSpeak II and Edge products in standalone, or site survey mode to test 1.9GHz / 5 GHz coverage, as it requires only a beltpack and a transceiver.

Transceiver Power:

The FS-II IPT or Edge transceiver can be powered by:

  • The supplied AC power adapter

  • Standard PoE injector or PoE-equipped switch (no IP configuration required)

  • Battery pack of the type used for portable charging of mobile devices. However, not every battery pack will work. The requirements are as follows:

    • 3A, 5V Output capacity

    • Native USB C connector

    • Quick-Charge

Beltpack Power:

The Edge beltpack can be charged using a standard USB C power bank, and the FS-II beltpack can be charged using micro USB or powered by 3x AA batteries.

Switching to standalone mode:

Connect the transceiver to power while holding down the reset button on the transceiver. You can release the reset button when the green power indication is on and two yellow LEDs are illuminated.

It takes about 2-3 minutes to complete its boot sequence at the end of which you will see a solid yellow (lower) and flashing yellow (upper) LED indication, signifying standalone mode.

Connecting to the transceiver:

When the transceiver has completed its boot sequence and the purple flashing LED has been replaced by a yellow solid LED, power on the beltpack and go to Menu > System Connect > and select the transceiver showing that is available for registration (the transceiver’s mDNS name will be shown, and the letters V (visible) and P (pairing). The functions available are simple and only two packs will be able to communicate.

If the transceiver shows the correct LED sequence but isn’t seen by the same-frequency beltpack, power cycle the transceiver and hold the reset button for longer and retry.
