Wireless: Does Clear-Com offer amplified antennas for the WBS-670/680 system?

Installing a powered antenna or an inline amplifier on a WBS-670 or WBS-680 system requires specific RF knowledge to successfully implemented.
Clear-Com does not offer this option and one has to be cautious in going this route for several reasons.
  • The placement of the amplifier module should be near the antenna in order to best amplify the received antenna which means a power source near the antenna or a power module located near the base station to route DC thru the cable to the powered antenna
  • The gain of the amplifier has to be carefully tailored so as to not provide too much signal as this can also amplify any inband spurious signals or overdrive the front end of the receiver and de-sense the receivers in the base station
  • One needs to be careful about running DC on the coaxial cable so that it doesn’t accidently make its way back to the base station receiver input as the DC will effectively see a low impedance and damage the base station.
  • As a general rule to provide a successful installation powered / amplified antenna runs are best left to professional installers with plenty of field experience in this area
