Wireless: I've updated to the latest version of Tempest TDesk (version 3.00), now I can't connect to the base stations, what is wrong?

Question:  I've updated my Tempest 2400 system to version 3.00.00 and I've updated to the latest version of TDesk software (version 3.00).  I can't seem to connect to the base station from TDesk, I've double checked the static IP addresses on the PC and on the base station, I'm connecting the base station to the PC on the company LAN.  Any ideas why this connection no longer works, do I need to do something different with the 3.00 components and or software?
Answer:  Check the following items when the base station and software are being used in static mode on a company LAN:
  • Ping the base station address by clicking the run command, type in cmd and click on "OK".  This will open the DOS command dialog screen, type the word PING followed by a space and then type in the IP ADDRESS of the base station and press the enter key, you should receive 4 replies back from the base station.  If you do not receive any replies or a time out message check the physical connections to the LAN on the PC and Tempest base, also recheck IP addresses and the subnet mask settings.
  • Check with the IT department on the company LAN settings, they may be blocking incoming connections to TDesk.  To verify temporarily disconnect the PC and Tempest base from the company LAN and connect the PC and basestation directly or via standalone, simple 10/100 Mb Ethernet switch and see if a connection between TDesk and Tempest can be achieved.  If a connection is made then IT may be blocking the operation of the software / port on the company LAN.  IT may have previously given permission to open the port but when the original Tempest software was removed and updated with the version 3.00 software permission may need to be given again.
