Question:  I understand that ports 33 to 36 on theEclipse Pico can't be used for panels or interfaces. Could they be used toprovide a port for listening to a Virtual Party Line, e.g. to record a partyline conversation on a server?
Answer:  Ports 33 to 36 on the Pico frame are unintelligent 4-wire portsonly.  That is why they don’t support Eclipse Panels and interface cards, these ports don’t have RS-422 data the panels and interfaces need to handshakewith.  To activate these ports go to the matrix hardware screen in ECS anddeclare the port as a “Direct” in the port designation column and assign a talk/ listen label name to the port and apply the change to the frame with ECSusing a frame reset to “wake up” the port.

These ports can beused to support balanced line level 4-wire connections to various 3rdparty devices such as mixing consoles, public address amplifiers, wirelessintercom systems (WBS-670/680, CellCom or Tempest 2400 for example). These ports can also be used to route audio from the frame to a recordingdevice (PC hard drive for example).

In order to routethe audio from the frame (panels and interfaces) to one of these ports forrecording purposes make the port a fixed member of a party-line.  Assign aspermanent members to this PL any other interfaces needing to be recorded (portsassigned to wireless is a good example).  Any panels talking to this samePL via their talk PL keys will also have their audio routed to the recording port aswell.

Other ways to routeaudio to this recording port include using forced listens from the source portto the destination port.  This creates a permanent crosspoint from therecording source to the recording destination.  Forced listens can befound in the ECS local advanced menu.

Creating audio routesin ECS can also be used, simply create the route (source to destination) andassign the route to a control label, assign the control label to a paneldirectly or stack the label to an existing key and the key activation opens theroute to the recording port.
