How much data bandwidth does the V-Iris / IPT use in AES67 mode?
V-Iris AES67 data bandwidth.
1 x V-Iris panel bandwidth usage: ~4.6 Mbps, then ~1.15 Mbps for each additional channel (up to a total of 3 channels, so ~6.9. Mbps).
Once the connection is established, we are sending uncompressed 24bits 48kHz audio over RTP for each audio channel. So the audio itself is 1.152 Mbps.
Each RTP packet we send has 12 (RTP) + 8 (UDP) + 20 (IP) + 24 (Ethernet)
Ethernet Header: 14 bytes
IP header: 20 bytes
UDP Header: 8 Bytes
RTP Header: 12 bytes
= 54 bytes = 432 bits of overhead.
In AES67 if you send 1ms packets, that’s 1000 packets per second = 432 kbps of overhead on top of the 1.152 Mbps of audio = roughly 1.6 Mbps
If you send 125 usec packets, that’s 8000 packets per second = 3.456 Mbps of overhead on top of the 1.152 Mbps of audio = roughly 4.6 Mbps. (Default mode)
AES67 allows for multiplexing multiple channels in the same packet. That’s why additional channels don’t add as much overhead
AES67 / ST2110 trunklines use 24bit depth.
