Partyline: What is the Hot Mic output for Encore and HelixNet

A Hot-Mic output is an analogue line level signal that is always present “Hot” at the connector. It provides a 0dBV output signal from the selected headset or panel microphone. This output is intended to interface 3rd party device such as a mixing consoles or recording devices.

It is also used to feed the microphone signal to a Clear-Com analogue IFB System, allowing a headset or a microphone to be shared between a Main/Remote Station (MS/RM-702/4) and an IFB control panel (MA-704).

The Hot Mic function is facilitated with a TRS (tip/ring/sleeve) 1/4-in (0.64 cm) phone jack which in addition to the microphone audio includes a contact closure control signal in the reverse direction to momentarily enable the microphone and - device dependent - optionally mutes microphone output to any latched partylines on the Main/Remote Station.

The jack is wired as follows - Main/Remote Station:
Tip --- Hot Mic Audio Output
Ring --- Ext. IFB Control Signal Input
Sleeve--- Ground (Shield)

The jack is wired as follows - IFB Control Panel:
Tip --- Hot Mic Audio Input - “External Line In” is otherwise jack normalized to MA-704’s front panel Gooseneck Mic Connector
Ring --- “External Bus Out/Line In” Control Signal Input/Output (paralleled between connectors for daisy chaining)
Sleeve--- Ground (Shield)
