Matrix: How should I wire up Headset 2 (HS2) on the rear of a V-series panel

If you want to use the Headset 2 connections on the rear of a V-series panel. Here are some wiring guidelines which may be useful to reduce crosstalk
Always used a screened cable for the Microphone connections

Use a heavy gauge twin screened (braided preferably) cable for the mic wiring to remote headset box. Eg Belden 8412  or AWG20 or AWG 18 cable

Remember to adjust the V-series , V-Iris Audio Mixer (DSP mixer) in EHX to route audio to/from HSET2 as it is normally defaulted to HSET1

For  4 pin XLR unbalanced mic headsets :

  • XLR4 PIN 1 TO D-TYPE PIN 14 (HSR_RTN)

  • XLR4 PIN 2 TO D-TYPE PIN 1 (MIC_HOT)

  • SCREENED AT ONE END TO D-TYPE PIN 5 (0V)

  • XLR4 PIN 3 TO D-TYPE PIN 15  (HSL_RTN)

  • XLR4 PIN 4 TO D-TYPE PIN 2 (HSL)

  • SCREENED AT ONE END TO D-TYPE PIN 18 (0V)

For  5 pin XLR unbalanced mic headsets :

  • XLR5 PIN 1 TO D-TYPE PIN 14 (HSR_RTN)

  • XLR5 PIN 2 TO D-TYPE PIN 1 (MIC_HOT)

  • SCREENED AT ONE END TO D-TYPE PIN 5 (0V)

  • XLR5 PIN 3 TO D-TYPE PIN 15  (HSL_RTN)

  • XLR5 PIN 4 TO D-TYPE PIN 2 (HSL)

  • SCREENED AT ONE END TO D-TYPE PIN 18 (0V)

  • XLR5 PIN 3 TO D-TYPE PIN 16  (HSR_RTN)

  • XLR5 PIN 5 TO D-TYPE PIN 3 (HSR)

  • SCREENED AT ONE END TO D-TYPE PIN 19 (0V)

If the customer is using an external headset box that is made of plastic or is made from metal & isn’t earthed then connect the shell of the mating XLR to one of the screens.

When wiring headset 2 to use the auxiliary audio connector, Clear-Com recommends using good quality headphone cable to avoid pickup of electronic noise by the microphone connection.
