Matrix: Why do people use Intercom systems rather than just a simple telephone system?

Question: Why doesn't a user just use a telephone system instead of intercoms?
Answer:Because on a phone you have to dialthe number of the person you need to talk to…Or even if you set up speed dialsyou can only talk to one person at a time. Using an intercom panel you canpress a button, talk to that person, press another button and your now talkingto two people simultaneously and so on hands free because your hands are busypushing buttons on the control desk  orvision mixer, or you have your finger on the play button for the VCR machine... etcAlsoyou need to take into account that a telephone system only has 3kHz telephoneaudio quality while an intercom matrix has 22kHz audio quality … try listeningto some one talking for 8 hrs continuously on a phone...
