Matrix: How do I wire up a POTS line to a TEL-14 interface card?

Question:  I have a TEL-14 interface card that I need to wire up to a standard POTS line.  The incoming telephone line is a cable with four wires, black, red, green and yellow.  Which wires do I use to connect to the DB-9m rear panel interface for the TEL-14 card? 
Answer:  Phone cable generally contains two pairs of wires, for two phone lines. In station wire, the first pair is green (tip) and red (ring); the second is black (tip) and yellow (ring).  This is the wiring for the plug side of an RJ-11 connector. The diagram is shown with the "hook" - the little thing you press on to get the plug out - underneath.









RJ-11 plugs always have the colors indicated on the terminals.  Note that the RJ-11 connector has six terminals on it. Only the middle 4 are normally used. Line 1 is the center pair:  red and green, as in Christmas.  Some premade phone cables only have the center two wires. 
If you have only the bare wires to work with the red and green wires (line 1) will be used, these wires will go to the following pins on the DB-9m:
RJ11 Red pin 3    to DB-9m pin 1 (line)
RJ11 Green pin 4 to DB-9m pin 2 (line)
The other option is to install an RJ11 plug onto the cables as shown above, this will allow the use of the supplied Clear-Com part # 770025A RJ11 to DB-9F adapter.  The adapter provides the wiring necessary for a successful connection to the TEL-14 interface card.  The internal wiring of the adapter is shown below:
