Question:

I have a Tempest 2400 base station with five beltpacks used in Normal mode.

...

When I power up the beltpacks several come up with the message "Slot Occupied", but they are paired to the base station.

...

What am I doing wrong in the system setup?

Answer:

...

Tempest 900 & 2400 basestations have 5 RF slots. When a BP powers up it can either freely take up the next free slot or it can be forced to always take a fixed slot number

If the Tempest base station is setup in Normal Mode, check to see

...

what slot mode the base is set to in the Tech Menu, it can be set to either STATIC or DYNAMIC mode.

If the base is set to Static mode, each beltpack is assigned a static slot number (1 to 5) and that is the only slot the beltpack will register to.  If more than one beltpack is registered to the same slot the first beltpack will register to its fixed slot, all other beltpacks registered to the same slot will display the "Slot Occupied" message.

To fix the issue

...

:

  1. Take a beltpack displaying the 'Slot Occupied' message and go into the Tech Menu

...

  1. .
  2. Once in this menu, select Base Slot and press the ENTER button to access.  The BP display will show the slot the beltpack is set to, if this slot is already occupied then use the volume control to select an unoccupied slot and and press ENTER to save the new setting.
  3. Observe that the Occupied Slot message should disappear and the beltpack is now active on it's newly selected slot.
  4. Repeat this procedure for any other beltpacks displaying the occupied slot message.

If Static Slot mode is not necessary for the base station, then select DYNAMIC mode, this allows the beltpacks to register to the next open slot on the base station until all five slots are occupied.
