How do I use the panel local assign feature on a lever key panel?

The following instructions refer to a panel connected to either a Gemini or Messenger system. On the panel it is possible for the operator to locally re-assign a key type or to assign key to a different port/group/IFB or conference on the system.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Press the 'Assign/Shift' key UPWARDS. The Assign indicator will now flash.

  2. Choose the key and press DOWN on that key. The red and yellow tally indicators will now flash simultaneously. On the display, 'Type' will appear.

  3. Use the panel rotary encoder to step through the key type options and when ‘Subs’ (subscribers) appears on the display press the key down to choose ‘Subs’ then using the panel encoder scroll through the names until the port name you are looking for appears, for example ‘DIR3’. Once the target appears, press DOWN on the key to accept the new key assignment.

The 'Assign' yellow lamp will now stay steady, indicating that a key on the panel has been reassigned.


The above example describes how to locally re-assign a key to a subscriber (matrix port) on the system, it is also possible to locally change the panel key type, for example speak only key to a listen / speak type. It is also possible to target the key to a group or conference.  


When selecting to re-assign a key, as described in the example above, the following options are available:

‘Type’ refers to key type and allows you to change the assigned key type from say a speak key to a speak/listen key for example.

‘Subs’ refers to Subscriber and allows the user to target the key to a different port on the system.

‘GRP’ refers to Groups and allows the user to assign the key to a group configured on the system.

‘CONF’ refers to Conferences and allows the user to assign the key to a conference configured on the system.

‘CLR’ – refers to Clear and selecting this option will remove the key assignment from this key.

‘RELD’ refers to Reload and when selected will load the panel keys from the database and reset the panel keys back before any of the local re-assignments had been made.

‘ME?’ when selected the display will report the name and E.D.H.S address assigned to the panel.


To clear all local assignments:

  1. To clear all local assignments, press the 'Assign/Shift' key UPWARDS. The Assign indicator will now flash.
  2. Choose any key and press DOWN on that key. The red and yellow tally indicators will now flash simultaneously. On the display, 'Type' will appear.
  3. Use the panel rotary encoder to step through the options and select ‘RELD’; this will load the panel keys from the database and reset the panel keys back before any of the local re-assignments had been made.


Additional local assign features:

It is possible to reassign more than one key on a panel.


Locally assigned keys are not stored on the system, so if the system is restarted, all local assignments are cleared. It is possible to save the local assignments to the Gateway Editor if required. To copy the panel local assignments to the editor go to the Gateway Panel Editor and select the  ‘Capture key settings from panel’ option.


The option to locally re-assign panel keys can be barred on a key by key basis from the Gateway Editor and is set in the Panel Advanced Editor > Sources page. Un-checking the ‘Assign’ checkbox for the key prevents the key being locally reassigned by the panel operator.



Please note for the local assign feature to function the matrix must be connected to the Database Supervisor application.
