PTPv2 Follower - formerly known as Slave / Client

The PTPv2 Leader unit on an AES67 / ST2110-30 network sends PTP sync packets to each PTP follower unit in its PTPv2 domain.

There is a finite number of PTPv2 follower devices any PTPv2 Leader clock device can support.

The E-IPA card can service approx. 20 PTP follower units when acting as a Leader clock. This number includes any Clear-Com and other 3rd party devices.

Clear-Com recommendation for systems with more than 20 PTPv2 clients

  • use an external, GPS-locked PTPv2 Leader clock unit (like the Trilogy Mentor RG)

  • in combination with PTPv2 aware, boundary clock capable ethernet network switches

  • setup your external Leader clock to operate in PTPv2 two-step message exchange mode

E-IPA cards running v8.61.63.0 firmware support PTPv2 2-step message exchange only.
