How do I keep LQ-SIP telephone (IFB) line active

Customer was using a LQ-SIP line as a remote telephone IFB and were frustrated by the ease with which one could accidentally drop a phone call. They didn’t want to latch on key all the time in order to keep the line active, because typically they would establish a call and then release their panel key and keep sending a studio IFB to the caller.

Answer:

This could be solved by checking the “Disconnect by Remote Hangup Only” option in the telephone port settings.

However, this was only any good when they had a reporter with a phone handset on the other end of the line. If the caller was a TBU from another studio then they wouldn’t necessarily hang up a call remotely, so they could find situations where they couldn’t drop a call.

The solution to this is the “Line Release” function. This allows you to drop a call by holding the listen encoder on the telephone key.

This is set in the port settings for each panel – we have now enabled this for all panels in the system. Now we have both the “Disconnect by Remote Hangup Only” checked on the LQ-SIP ports and the “Line Release” checked on the panels. Between the two we are no longer dropping calls accidentally and we are able to intentionally drop calls by holding the listen encoder on the telephone key.

BTW: Another function which is helpful when telephone dialling is the fact that pressing “1” on the dial pad enters “Dial” mode whilst keeping the telephone keys on the page. So you can press “1”, dial the phone number, and then select the line in quick succession.

Use the dial pad on 2RU panels and desktop panels to:
• Access some menu pages directly (as a shortcut).
• Enter dialcodes, to dial out through a telephone interface, such as the TEL-14 interface module.
When the dial pad keys are used to access a menu function, the blue menu LED is lit.
