Mentor RG: How to upgrade your Mentor RG
Aug 24, 2025
The latest RG release to fix the GPS stability issue is v7.0.3.9. It has not been formally released yet, as Test recently found an issue if you removed the power to the antenna
The upgrade is a two step process and should take approximately 10 minutes. The unit will reboot during the process so the Mentor RG will be off-line whilst the upgrade takes place.

Before you start:
Before commencing the upgrade, although not essential, we recommend making a safe back-up of the configuration file first.
Important please note: The new V7 version of the Mentor RG firmware has had the Time Zones menu reworked to include the complete list of zones now available. So updating a Mentor RG from a V6 firmware version or earlier will cause a timecode offset as the Time Zone look-up table has changed, so after updating to V7 please re-enter the Time Zone required.
Upgrade process:
The upgrade of the MentorRG is a two-step process. Step 1 and Step 2 are similar processes, just the files being loaded are different.
Step 1:
Browse to the MentorRG, we would recommend using Chrome if possible. Go to Admin > Software Update > File Loader page, select ‘Choose File’ and browse to the ‘app 7-0-3-9_noFPGA.spg’ file you have downloaded. Click ‘Load File’ to apply.
If the version you are currently running is prior to v6.0.1.0, if so, it does not show a progress bar whilst the upgrade is taking place (this is fixed in v6.0.1.0) so please wait approximately 5 minutes for the upgrade to occur.
When the upgrade completes the browser will say 'Upgrade Successful' and prompt you to reboot the unit.
Reboot the MentorRG and continue to step 2.
Step 2:
Browse to the MentorRG, go to Admin > Files > Software Update > File Loader page and browse to the ‘app 7-0-3-9.spg’ file you have downloaded. Click apply.
You should now see a progress bar, when the upgrade completes the browser will say 'Upgrade Successful' and prompt you to reboot the unit.
Reboot the RG to complete the upgrade. When the unit has rebooted browse the status page to confirm the unit is operational.
The progress bar will show a progress bar whilst the upgrade is taking place and should take approximately 5 minutes.
When the upgrade completes the browser will say 'Upgrade Successful' and prompt you to reboot the unit.
Select Reboot to complete the update.
When the unit has rebooted browse the status page to confirm the unit is operational and check the Time Zone setting and correct.
