Matrix: Eclipse ECS-to-EHX upgrade General guidelines (June 2025)

ECS systems : Eclipse systems running ECS versions 1 - 5.x differ in hardware components from systems running Eclipse EHX 7.x and onwards.

 

ECS to HX upgrade kits : Up until June 2025 Clear-Com sold Eclipse ECS to Eclipse EHX upgrade kits with the hardware and software required to upgrade an Eclipse ECS 1-5 system to latest Eclipse HX as packaged part. 

From June 2025 these types of upgrade packages (ECS-to-EHX) will be treated like a service where the condition of the hardware is evaluated and an upgrade quoted on a

case-by-case basis.

 

To give an idea of the scope of the new upgrade service:

Systems older than 10 years old:

Clear-Com will likely recommend an upgrade consisting for each Omega or Median frame the following purchased items (per matrix)

Items required per matrix frame

(x1) EHX-UPGRADE –  Software, firmware and documentation for the upgrade

(x2) Power Supplies – Replacement of both power supplies of the frame / part # 720379Z

  • You cannot mix different PSU models in the same matrix but must be of the type

(x2) CPU BOOT EPROM – This is a memory for the CPU / part # 795002Z

(x2) CPU RAM – This is memory for the CPU / part # 481508Z

(x2) CPU Battery – This includes a battery and holder for the CPU / part # CPU-208-BAT

  • CPU cards will require an inspection for components and hardware revision.

x2 SVC-COMM1D - Minimum two days paid on-site Commissioning (per matrix) for Clear-Com Application Engineer (AE)

  • Depending age, condition and size of the system additional onsite days maybe required as well to cover training on the new system and re-configuration of the map from scratch

  • Use of specialized tools are required*

  • Consider swapping IVC-32 & EQue cards for E-IPA cards as both cards have been discontinued

 

Systems older than 15 years old 

Clear-Com will likely recommend an upgrade consisting for each Omega or Median frame the following purchased items (per matrix)

Items required per matrix frame

(x1) EHX-UPGRADE – Software, firmware and documentation for the upgrade

(x2) Power Supplies – Replacement of both power supplies of the frame / part # 720379Z

  • You cannot mix different PSU models in the same matrix but must be of the type

(x2) CPU-HX-SPARE-SP – New and upgraded CPU card / part # CPU-HX-SPARE-SP

  • 2x New CPU cards to replace the >15+ year old CPU cards

Omega backplane pre 2006

If you try to install E-Dante and E-IPA cards into very very old Omega frames (purchased Pre 2006) they will only work in slot #15. This is due to that fact that the very early backplanes did not track power to all the pins on the VME bus and hence newer cards which use some pins on the powered rear cards do not work

Any Omega matrix purchased before Jan-2006 would have this problem

Option # 1 : Customer orders part # OMEGA-BKPLN-UG (ask Sales for price) and sends their matrix to the factory (Alameda or Germany only - NOT ASP partners)

*Customer ships the empty frame (no cards, no psus , no termination cards)

  • No termination cards because it contains the matrix ID and any passcodes they have are locked to the matrix ID.  Meaning we don’t have to generate any new codes for the customer

Option # 2 : Customer selects part # SVC-EXCH-NW  and CC sends them a replacement Omega frame and we charge

15% LIST of OMEGA/0 (at current list price) + $4000 labour /parts)

*Sales will quote the customer

  • EHX upgrade to latest version to support the E-IPA, E-DANTE, E-MADI, E-FIB Cards

  • SVC-EXCH-NW

PLEASE contact your local Clear-Com partner or RSM for advice and your individually priced option

 

*Specialized tools

Depending on the age of the matrix and panels some matrix cards and or panels will require the use of specialized tools to bring them up to date. Additional time should be set aside for this and require you to purchase the services of a Clear-Com AE to be onsite to complete the upgrade.

 

 

New matrix PSU type

New CPU battery type and voltage

Part # CPU-208-BAT

The CPU battery voltage should be 2.5V or greater

The current CPU battery is a user removal CR2477N button (make sure it is the N-type)

General rule of thumb is to replace this battery if older than 8 years

If your CPU does not have this type of battery, then it will need to be sent back to a service center for h/w modification.

Not all PCBs allow for the new battery type, which may require you to purchase a new CPU cards part # CPU-HX-SPARE-SP

 

Supported firmware versions

Clear-Com does not support systems which have firmware versions that are more than 3 major versions back .. check https://www.clearcom.com/Download-Center/Software-Versions-Chart for current s/w versions

 

No support for Drake or ICSxxx panels except 1008 /1016 intercom panels

No FSBP support , unless customer uses EHX V11

No Support for Eclipse Pico matrices after EHX V12 **

** ECS Pico matrices require return to factory h/w modification to become EHX compatible.

This cannot be done on site by the Clear-Com Application Engineer (AE)

The internal Pico PSU module is obsolete and has been discontinued by the OEM supplier

You may to consider replacing the Pico with a Delta-lite matrix

 

Networked matrices

If your matrix is part of an intelligently trunked network. All matrices on the network must be upgraded to the same firmware version

Each matrix in an intelligently trunked networked system, will be priced differently. Depending on age, condition and size of the system additional onsite days maybe required as well to cover training on the new system and re-configuration of the map from scratch per matrix

FS ICON BPs

If installing FSII ICON BPs customer needs to upgrade to v14.1 or later

 

AES67 networks

If installing IP Antennas on your system please refer to our AOIP recommendation document to help guide you, when setting up your AES67 IP antenna network

 

EQUE and IVC-32

Consider swapping IVC-32 & EQue cards for E-IPA card as both cards have been discontinued
