Alert users if no audio is routed to an IFB / phone / port
A combination of EHX, panel routing control and Dynam-EC means that the responsibility for routing audio to endpoints, such as sources for IFBs, might be shared among the production team.
It can be useful to know if the IFB or port on the user’s panel has been set up properly. Here’s one way to do that.
We can add Logic to flash the keys of our endpoint on user panels when no crosspoint is made to it.
To do this, we’ll go to Configuration > Fixed Groups and add two new groups. Feel free to change the name or skip this step if the number of potential audio sources is limited.
In the Sources group, I’m going to add any audio source that is likely to be routed to the destination we’re interested in. These could be mix minus or program feeds for an IFB, or any port on the local system.
Adding a group and not putting it on any panels is just the same as creating a list for the matrix to use, and is faster than managing a list of ports in Logic.
In All Panels, we’ll attach any panel we want to flash when audio to the destination isn’t currently routed. This could be just the Producer or Audio, or could be everyone.
Go to Logic and create a new diagram. Here’s how I labeled mine:
In the Logic designer, drag in the Xpt Trigger (from the bottom left) into the Canvas and set the source to either potential sources for the destination from the Configuration Elements (right side) or drag in the Fixed Group created earlier from the Fixed Group treeview. For the destination, drag in the port destination of the IFB or telephone, not the IFB label. In this case, our LQ SIP port (not IFB) is called Phone 1.
Add a NOT Logic Element from the Logic Elements (top left) as we want to flash keys when audio isn’t being routed.
Draw a line from Xpt Trigger to the NOT element, and drag in Panel Control from the Module Library. It’ll look like this when added:
Click the + to the left of the words then right click the mouse on Loudspeaker Cut and change to the indication you require - in this case Green Indication. Change from Indication On to Indication 4Hz as it won’t look like any other indication we have for IFBs.
For the panels, either drag in the panels you’d like to flash, or drag in the All Panels group we made earlier.
For the label, we want to flash the key that the user has on their panel - this might be a port, an IFB label, a Group - whichever key the users use to talk to the destination is what needs to go in Add label…
It is possible to add multiple labels, so no matter which key a user has, it will flash.
The end product will look something like this:
Save and Apply to Matrix, no reset required. If nothing seems to happen, check that the labels used are the actual labels on the panel, and check any Groups used have the correct members attached.
