Netgear M4250 PTP Transparent Clock Configuration

The PTP Transparent Clock will relay the PTP-Leader's PTP Sync, Follow_Up and Delay_Resp messages to all of the PTP-Follower clocks and will transfer PTP Request_Delay messages from all the PTP-Follower clocks back to their PTP-Leader clock with adjusted timestamps to compensate for the time taken to process the packet.

The PTP Transparent Clock can be enabled on the Netgear M4250 per interface.

Note Using Transparent Clock mode provides accurate timing on PTP networks and allows the PTP- Followers to adjust their PTP timing to allow for network delay.

!! However the PTP- Leader must still process the PTP packets for each PTP- Follower.

As per Clear-Com’s AoIP-AES67 Network Recommendations guide. The E-IPA card is limited to supporting upto 20x PTP- Followers (Iris, IPT, 3rd party devices) when set in PTP- Leader mode. if there are more than 20 PTP- Followers recommend using Ethernet Switches in Boundary Clock (BC) mode or using an external GPS locked PTP- Leader like the Clear-Com Mentor RG unit

Access the Netgear M4250 configuration by navigating to the IP address of the management interface in a web browser.
