Why can't EHX detect my IP transceivers?

EHX uses a process called mDNS discovery to detect IP transceivers and AES67 connected panels. The “m” in mDNS stands for multicast, and the mDNS protocol resolves hostnames into IP addresses on small networks that do not include a domain name server.

An mDNS message is a multicast UDP packet sent to IP address 224.0.0.251, UDP port 5353. The Clearcom IPA card sends this query to discover transceivers and panels. Some corporate networks block this query at the switch port.

If you can ping the transceiver or panel, but it is not detected by EHX, it’s likely the network is blocking the mDNS query. At this point, you have 2 choices. You can ask the network administrator to un-block mDNS queries. This varies by switch vendor, but may involve adding the destination IP addresses/switch ports to the ACL[access control list]. If this is not possible, EHX can add the panels or transceivers directly by IP address.
