LQ IP Address 172.23.xxx.xxx Restricted

LQ IP Address 172.23.xxx.xxx Restricted

You will find that the LQ (and the HelixNet as an extension) does not allow you to assign IP addresses in the 172.23.xx.xx subnet, more specifically, IP addresses 172.23.1.1 through 172.23.12.1.

This subnet is reserved for linking between different LQ’s and LQ to HelixNet (depending on which one is the Link Master.) The reason for this is to allow the LQ to in effect create a VPN tunnel between the devices, which is especially useful when connected over the internet.

As stated in the LQ user guide, it is highly advised that you consider a different subnet from 172.23.xx.xx as Clear-Com cannot guarantee reliable behavior if this address range is used. Deploying an LQ in this range could cause IP conflicts and routing issues.

LQ and HelixNet do not allow:

  • 10.0.0.x (used for the Digital Partyline subnet)

  • 172.23.x.x (used withing the linking them together VPN)

Note that Dante secondary link-local address range is 172.31.0.0/16 so not recommended

mDNS, that we use to discover equipment on the network,

  • uses multicast addresses 224.0.0.251, so 224 .xxx.xxx.xxx is not recommended

The following three are probably true for all Clear-Com products.

  1. The IP addresses cannot be in the reserved range: 10.0.0.0-10.0.0.7

  2. The IP addresses cannot be in the localhost range 127.xxx.xxx.xxx

  3. The static IP addresses cannot be in link local range 169.254.xxx.xxx

Please note it is good practice to give HOST devices like Arcadia , FSII basestations, Matrices and IPA cards fixed static IP addresses and set the end points to DHCP mode , where a DHCP server will assign them the correct IP address

Do NOT set the static IP address of the HOST devices in any of the reserved IP ranges
