HelixNet: Forgotten IP address with locked front panel

HelixNet version 3.0.126 and earlier (Helixnet V3.0)

Question: My HMS-4X has been given a role whereby the front panel menu is disabled. I do not know the IP address and so cannot access the unit via the CCM. How can I get access to my unit?
Answer: The fastest way to find an unknown IP address is by using Wireshark. Install this and connect the HelixNet basestation (HMS) to your computer.
Open Wireshark and go to Capture>Options
Select the interface (Ethernet adapter) that you are using to connect to the HMS. Then select "start".
Now soft-reset the HMS by simultaneously pressing the Main and PGM rotary encoders with the HSET button. The four displays will go black and the unit will reboot.
When the unit reboots it will send out several MDNS messages, which can be seen in Wireshark. The info field will show something like: Standard query 0x0000 ANY HMS-4X_394500._cc-hn-ivr._udp.local, "QM" question SRV 0 0 6001 npl-3c450098.local
You can search for this by going to Edit>Find Packet
Then in the search bar change "display filter" to "string" and type in HMS-4X.
Select find and any entries relating to the HMS will be highlighted. You will also see the unit IP address. This will work regardless of whether or not the computer and the HMS are on the same subnet.
You can then use CCM to unlock the front panel.
Note a simpler method will be introduced in the later versions of Helixnet
