Wireless: Dx-300 (MB300) base station linking considerations

Questions:

  1. How many DX-300 (MB300) bases can you link together?  The user manual indicates two via the base in / out connectors.  On the Clear-Com web page for products it seems to indicate 4 bases, but if this is the case would one need special cabling to pull off?

  2. Are the base in / out linking connectors RJ-45 or RJ-11?  What are the pin outs on the connector, didn't see it noted in the manual.

Answers:

  1. The recommended number of linked DX-300 base stations is 4. The recommendation is based on two different functions:

    1. The number of bases that can be initialized so as not to cause RF interference between them and

    2. as more base stations are connected together, the audio noise floor increases and we thought that 4 was the maximum acceptable level.  Theoretically, an unlimited number could be connected but the noise floor would become as high as the usable audio.

  2. Each DX-300 base station is sent out with a standard straight 1:1 CAT-5 LAN cable (RJ-45 connectors) to connect between the "OUT" connector of one base to the "IN" connector of the next. No special wiring or audio level adjustments are required.  The interfaces are balanced 600 Ohm circuits so the LAN cable can be extended out quite far but we never tested further than 500ft (150m)
