IP: How do I get the MAC address on a Voice interface?
Question: How can I get the physical address (MAC address) of a VoICE unit?
Answer: You can get the MAC address of any IP device connected on the same LAN as your PC by using the ARP command from a DOS window on your PC
Go to Windows > start > Run and type CMD When the DOS style window opens type the command ‘arp -d’ (note there is a space between arp & -d) to clear the current table, then PING the VoICE unit with the DOS command ‘PING xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx’ where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the VoICE unit. Then type the command 'arp -a' this will display a table which shows IP addresses and their MAC address
ARP stands for "Address Resolution Protocol" (ARP) which is used by all IP devices to link the MAC address (the physical h/w id of a IP device) to its IP address (the logical id of a IP device)
