Matrix: Can I use a USB to RS-232 adapter to talk to a Matrix + II frame?

Question:  The Matrix + II operations manual indicates that I need a PC with an RS-232 serial comport to communicate with the frame.  My PC doesn't have a dedicated serial comport, can I use a USB to RS-232 adapter to talk to a Matrix + II frame?

Answer:  Yes; Use the IO Gear GUC-232A adapter, we have been recommending this adapter to users for years when laptop and desktop computers started appearing without dedicated serial comports. The Matrix + II software program requires a serial comport numbered from 1 to 4 in order to talk to a Matrix + II frame. The adapter from IO Gear has worked successfully on Matrix +3 and Eclipse serial port connections for years using Windows 95, 98, 2000 and XP windows platforms. It does require a small driver installation to the host PC using the adapter.  Information on the adapter can be found on the IO Gear web site, link to site here:  http://www.iogear.com/product/GUC232A/
