There is an RF filter capacitor from pin 1 to the audio plug housing. When the housing was changed to plastic, the cap was not moved to a chassis ground. Grounding the cap eliminates the noise.
Also check the Master starion for a 10 ohms resistance when measured across Pin 1 and ground in the Master Station.
