Question:  I have 8 HKB-2X desktop speaker stations connected to my HelixNet HMS-4X base station via Ethernet
PoE switch.  All the speaker stations power up but only 5 or 6 actually log in.  The base station ethernet module and
the speaker stations are set to DHCP mode.  Can you help me?
Answer:  The HMS-4X base connected to (8) HKB-2X speaker stations via a PoE switch were operating in DHCP mode,
which basically means the base was trying to assign IP addresses to the connected speaker stations which is the incorrect
mode to operate in. DHCP should only be used if a router / hub is deployed which is capable of assigning IP addresses to
the speaker stations. In this case a dumb Ethernet switch is used, so the users switched to static IP mode on the base and
all the speaker stations (base and eight speaker stations have their own unique IP address in the same subnet). Once they
did that every speaker station logs in successfully.

Connecting in an existing IP network requires planning with your IT department in order to plan the IP addressing scheme.
By default HelixNet Main Station uses automatic IP addressing (DHCP) enabled. In order for that to work properly in an existing
IP network there must be a DHCP server handing out IP addresses. If no DHCP server is found, a Main Station will revert to an
unused link-local address in the 169.254.0.0/16 block.
Through the Networking menu you can disable DHCP and set static IP addresses. When you assign static IP addresses you
need to make sure that the Main Stations you want to link together are part of the same subnet.
