Matrix: How do I place an I-Station into Maintenance Mode for a manual firmware upgrade?
The Eclipse or Matrix +3 I-Station can be manually upgraded offline (when not connected to the Matrix frame) by the use of a terminal program such as Tera-Term. In order to successfully upgrade the I-Station will need the Tera-Term application and a special serial cable (which adapts the PC RS232 serial port to the RS422 RJ45 connector on the Istation panel) To start the upgrade process the user must place the I-Station into maintenance mode so that Tera-Term can establish communications link to the terminal program.
To place the I-Station in maintenance mode follow these steps:
1. Power down the I-Station. It should be disconnected from the Matrix frame. The serial cable connection to the host PC with Tera-Term program activated should be connected to the I-Station at this time.
2. Go to the rear panel of the I-Station, below the comm module connections find the recessed maintenance button and press and hold the button down.
3. Power up the I-Station, then release the maintenance button. The I-Station will boot up in maintenance mode, the front panel buttons will glow bright red and the following message will be displayed on the display key modules: PRESS ALL BUTTONS 3X.
4. Note that the Tera-Term program should now display the available program options.
Follow the attached detailed instructions below to setup Tera-Term, construct a special serial cable and programming instructions for updating the application firmware.
Note: The documents below show a special serial cable with an RS-422 to RS-232 adapter and another document that shows a special serial cable not using the adapter module. Both modes are acceptable to use and use the same Tera-Term settings
