Matrix: Why are 4000 co-ax (AES) panels louder than other panels on Eclipse?
Matrix: Why are 4000 co-ax (AES) panels louder than other panels on Eclipse?
4000 coax (AES) panels were designed at a nominal level of -9dBFS from the Mic amp rather than -16dBFs of analogue 4000 panels. This was done to maximise the signal to noise on the A to D which doesn’t need 16dB headroom because of the 8dBu Mic limiter. The matrix attenuated incoming audio on the 4000 Panel Control Card by 7dB to compensate for level & reduce the noise at the same time.
We don’t do this for other Eclipse panels using coax because they have a digital limiter in those panels
So 4000 coax panels incoming audio is 7dB louder on Eclipse frames + the 2dB resulted by the MVX card which gives 9dB.
AES-6 panels which are of type 4212E or 4222E or 4224E need to have the Matrix input volume (gain) adjusted down by 9dB in ECS
