Wireless: Why does my Tempest wireless intercom sound the way it does?

So… asfar as the audio “sound” is concerned.... The Tempest, as with all 2.4 GHz FHSSsystems has had to compromise audio bandwidth in order to achieve RFconnectivity in the crowded 2.4GHz spectrum.
The technology is actually quiteextensive and amazing. Like with cell phone technology, Tempest uses an industrystandard voice codec to digitize the audio of the caller and reassemble thatsignal at the other end.
It’s kind of like the transporter beam theyused in Star Trek to unassembled, transport digitally and then reassemble acrew member. 
But because this codec was originally designed to run across low fidelitytelephone company lines, it does not have the high fidelity audio sound we areused to in intercom analog systems with direct audio connections. Because of this, theaudio quality in Tempest is more like your cell phone quality that which your wiredintercom’s system has had.
Users quicklyget used to this sound and it functions quite well for intercom use.
