Matrix: How can I record a Matrix party-line feed to a recording device?

Question:  I have a question about getting the mic audio from a panel. The director wants to do a Director Commentary for the show. How can I take audio from his PL to send it to the audio console so it could be recorded?
Answer:  If you are looking to record the audio chatter from a specific matrix party-line then all you have to do is simply take an unused matrix frame port and declare it as a direct port.  Take this newly created "direct" port and make it a permanent member of the desired party-line that you want to record.  (you can set the monitor port to be a listen only member of the PL) in the partyline assignment screen of ECS
Apply the change to the frame. This direct port now listens to all the chatter on this party-line and it can be routed to an external recording device or mixing console by using pins 4 and 5 from the matrix port RJ45 connector (balanced audio output at line level).  See wiring diagram below for specific audio pinouts.

Alternative methodTake the hot mic output from the rear of the Directors panel. This will pickup any audio directly from the directors mic rather than the PL chatter.
