Matrix: E-Pico frame wireless beltpack options
Question: I am on board a marine construction vessel, operating a Eclipse PiCo system and require 4 additional mobile stations to go wireless(currently on a cabled separate, portable intercom system), what additional components will I require?
Answer: If you are looking for a standalone wireless system (basestation and 4 to 5 wireless beltpacks); You will have to interface the wireless back into the Eclipse system via 4-wire connections on the E-Pico MVX-A16 ports. The CellCom Integra option is not available for the 32 port frame as there is no way to plug in the required E-QUE card.
We have several options with wireless products that can operate on their own or be connected back to the existing Eclipse system, to confirm which is best suited to your needs we would need to know how the wireless would be used (i.e. on deck, below deck etc) in order to determine antenna coverage (single or multiple antennas).
Wireless Options currently offered by Clear-Com:
1.) CellCom / Freespeak - base station that allows up to 20 full duplex beltpacks to operate on multiple cell antennas (up to 10 antennas via CAT-5 cable) that operate on the 1.88 - 1.93 GHz band
2.) WBS-670/680 - base station using one transmit / one receive antenna that allows up to 4 full duplex beltpacks to operate in the VHF band (518 - 686 MHz)
3.) Tempest 900 and 2400 - base station using whip transmit and receive antennas on base station or one remote antenna via CAT-5 cable that allows up to 5 full duplex beltpacks (more in split and shared mode) to operate in either the 900 MHz band or 2.4 GHz band
4.) DX Series - various base stations with whip transmit and receive antennas that support 1 or up to 4 full duplex compact beltpacks or headset packs that operate in the 2.4 GHz band
