Matrix: When should I use the "balanced mic" setting on a 5-pin HS XLR V-Series panel?
Question: When should I use the "balanced mic" setting on a 5-pin XLR HS V-Series panel? Does it affect the front panel HS XLR
and the rear panel headset2 setting on the rear panel DB25 connector?
Answer: Diagram below is the "default" 5-pin XLR headset EHX software setting for an unbalanced mic headset:

If the user selects the "balanced mic" software option the headset 5-pin XLR pinouts are reconfigured.
Below would be correct for the XLR-5 headset connector but we do not recommend using a balanced connection on the front
XLR now due to the EMC filtering we have to have fitted on the XLR connection which permanently ‘unbalances’
the signal. Balanced connection is more suited to being wired to the rear headset2 connection.
Pin 1 – mic input –
Pin 2 – mic input +
Pin 3 – headphone return
Pin 4 – headphone L output
Pin 5 – headphone R output
The rear panel pin outs for the headset2 connector are shown below:
