IP : Softvoice client not recognizing PC's sound card (headset and microphone)

Korean customer installed a softvoice client but could not get the application to recognise his USB headset when he plugged it in
Thesoftware was showing a no devices error when the headset wasn't connected. Whenthe headset was detected, the error message wasn't shown - so there's obviouslya check for the number of available devices - which it passed. However, nodevices showed up; this suggested an issue populating the drop-down with theright names. We temporarily installed a virtual soundcard, http://www.e2esoft.cn/vsc/. This showedup properly - so it wasn't a general system issue. We then guessed that SoftVoICE was having issues with Unicode characters. Renamingthe Mic and Speaker through Control Panel > Sound (just type 'sound' in theStart bar in Windows, even on a Korean system) to Latin-only characters('Headset Mic') then restarting the application cured the problem, and ittested fine.
