Matrix: Can I rename audio channels in the Dante Controller screen?
Matrix: Can I rename audio channels in the Dante Controller screen?
Question: I have given all my E-Dante card ports unique channel names in EHX software. When I open the Dante Controller
software to make my crosspoints to other Dante devices I noticed that the channels are just numerically numbered. Can I
rename the channel numbers to something more meaningful?
Answer: In Dante, devices and audio channels are identified by names and labels. Device names and channel labels can be
customized. To customize the name of the audio channels go to the Dante Controller software and double click on the Dante
device you want to relabel.

This opens Device View. Click on the Receive tab and then click on the channel number to edit the name. The name
can be 31 or less characters.

To edit the transmit channel name click on the Transmit tab and edit the channel name in channel label column.

Dante routing is performed using the device names and channel labels. A receive channel can be subscribed to the name
of a transmit channel at a device.
Device names must be unique on the network. If you attempt to rename a device using Dante Controller to a name that is
already in use on the network, Dante Controller will notify you and reject the name change.
If a new device is added to the network with a name that already exists, a name conflict is detected. One of the devices will
adopt a temporary placeholder name, by appending a space and (2) to its old name. This device will not be able to transmit
audio until it is manually renamed, and some configuration options will be disabled for that device in Dante Controller.

Looking for labels? They can now be found in the details panel on the floating action bar.
