Matrix: How many ports can the ECS 5.2.4 user program on an Omega frame?
Matrix: How many ports can the ECS 5.2.4 user program on an Omega frame?
Question: I've added an additional IVC-32 card to an Omega frame with 11 MVX-A16 cards and 2 IVC-32 IP cards. When I try to program ports on the new IVC card and download the configuration to the frame the download fails and I get the following message:
Shared.Exceptions.MapBuildException: Map build failed. Cannot get a port dial code for out of range port number.
Parameter name: portNumber
Actual value was 241. ---> System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Cannot get a port dial code for out of range port number.
Parameter name: portNumber
Actual value was 241.
What is this error message trying to tell me?
Answer: The ECS software port count has been exceeded when you added the 3rd IVC-32 card. The port limit is 240 ports, adding ports above the 240 port limit will result in a invalid configuration that ECS will not be able to download to the frame.
So on your system frame you have the following card slots populated:
11 MVX-A16 analog cards = 176 ports
+1 IVC-32 IP card add 32 ports = 208 ports
+1 IVC-32 IP card add 32 ports = 240 ports
+1 IVC-32 IP card add 32 ports = 256 ports which puts you over the legal limit for a valid configuration that you can download to a frame.
Additional information on populating Omega / Median frame card slots below:
Order of installation (left to right in the frame)
P1 P2 Processor CPU cards (always installed on these slots)
First MVX-A16 cards (normally in leftmost slots)
Second E-MADI64 cards
Third IVC-32 cards
Fourth LMC-64 cards
Fifth E-QUE Antenna cards
Sixth E-QUE Splitter cards
Seventh E-QUE Trunk cards
Eighth E-FIB cards (normally in the rightmost slots)
The Eclipse system can allocate 240 audio ports to MVX-A16 cards, E-MADI64 cards and / or IVC-32 cards.
An MVX-A16 card uses 16 audio ports. An E-MADI64 card is configured in ECS to use either 16, 32, 56 or 64 audio ports.
An IVC-32 card uses 32 audio ports from the total. The total of audio ports can be made up of any combination of MVX-A16, E-MADI64 and IVC-32 cards.
For example, an Eclipse Omega matrix system could contain a maximum of 15 MVX-A16 cards which would fill the frame and use the maximum number of audio ports supported: (15 MVX cards * 16 ports = 240)
Up to 3 E-MADI64 cards could be installed, using up to 192 audio ports. This would allow
a further 3 MVX-A16 cards to be added. (3 E-MADI64 cards * 64 ports) + (3 MVX * 16 ports) = 240
Up to 4 IVC-32 cards could be installed, using 128 audio ports. This would allow a further 7 MVX-A16 cards to be added:
(4 IVC-32 cards * 32 ports) + (7 MVX cards * 16 ports) = 240
If 8 MVX cards were installed this would take the port count to 256 resulting in an invalid system configuration.
LMC-64 cards normally use a different port allocation and do not use any of the audio port allocation. LMC-64 cards are configured in ECS to 16, 32, 48 or 64 audio meters and the same numbers of ports are allocated at that time.
E-QUE cards (if not directly connected) and E-FIB cards normally use a different port allocation and do not use any of the audio port allocation. E-QUE cards have 60 ports in E1 mode or 48 ports in T1 mode, while E-Fib cards can be configured to use between 16 and 192 ports.
If E-QUE, LMC-64 or E-FIB cards are incorrectly installed to the left of MVX-A16 or IVC-32 cards they will be allocated ports from the audio port count, thereby reducing the number of audio ports available to be allocated to MVX-A16 or IVC-32 cards.
Comfort tones also use 3 ports which normally default to using the top of the physical port range. If required the comfort tones can be redirected to ports above 240 in System Preferences.
