Partyline: Are Clear-Com Encore beltpacks and headsets compatible with PortaCom products?
Partyline: Are Clear-Com Encore beltpacks and headsets compatible with PortaCom products?
Question: I have a compatibility question.. I have a client that has an Anchor Audio Portacom 2000 hub that he wants to interface with new ClearCom headsets/packs. The Hub uses the ClearCom protocol and is 3-pin. Will this system work?
Answer: Our current and past generation of headsets with 4-pin XLR connectors are completely compatible with your Portacom wired beltpacks. This includes CC-300, CC-400, CC-26 series and older series CC-95 and CC-260 headsets.
The compatibility of Clear-Com wired beltpacks with Portacom 2000 hubs will depend on the type of CC beltpacks that you have:
• RS-701 single channel packs use a 3-pin XLR connector, but only have a single channel available. Portacom beltpacks have two channels so you will lose a channel
• RS-703 TW 2Ch beltpacks will be the closest match to your Portacom gear. The CC beltpacks have two channels on a single 3-pin XLR connector.
• RS-702 2Ch beltpacks are probably a no go, the IC patch on these packs is made with a 6-pin XLR connector to get true 2Ch operation.
Other things to consider if you mix and match products from different manufacturers on your system, audio levels may be slightly different, call signaling may not be available depending on how Portacom generates its and Portacom Hubs use +22Vdc to power their beltpacks, Clear-Com uses +30Vdc so there may be some slight audio differences on the CC beltpacks due to the lower voltage supply.
