Partyline: Is the RCS2700 source/destination assignment panel compatible with RTS TW products?
Question: For a project I'm drawing up, someone has specified the RCS2700 to be used in an RTS TW environment. We'll be using the RS-603 beltpack in this environment, as well. Question is: Will the RCS2700 work in an RTS TW environment?
Answer: You can operate the RCS-2700 using TW party-line sources provided that each source channel is powered. If power does not exist on every intercom channel, you can add it using TWC-701 or TWC-704 TW Adapters. The wiring is as
shown in the diagram below. Because 2-amp relays are used, they can easily handle the DC current on the line as they switch.
When powering the stations this way, you should not connect the destination power block to the source power block. Instead, connect a jumper wire on each destination output using the connection options shown in the diagram. You can take RCS-2700 power from one of the source channels using the power patch panel. The current drain of the RCS-2700 is designed not to interfere with the audio on the powered source. You connect a jumper from the desired source in the source power block to the RCS power connection. You must also add a jumper between the pin-2 and pin-3 (or the pin-5 and pin-6) connections for the selected source in the sources block. In the diagram below, power from Source 8 is being used to power the RCS-2700.
