Clear-Com Licensing Overview & Glossary
Clear-Com utilizes licenses to enable certain products and/or features.
Two different types of licensing tools are used and those have different capabilities.
This article serves as an overview of license and glossary of terms used for their mechanics.
Clear-Com License Type 1: Utilizes a proprietary licensing mechanism to enable and protect product, function and capacity licenses. Licenses are permanently fixed the hardware that hosts the device.
Used (as of 2021Q4) for Eclipse, Agent-IC-HX, FSII-BASE-II and HelixNet.
Dongle ID or System ID: is a unique ID to the hardware host which must be provided when ordering a license. Once the license is issued it will be permanently associated with this unique ID. The ID can be found from the front panel menu or via CCM for FSII-BASE-II and HelixNet, using EHX Event Log or stickers on back or front of the frame.
Note: Eclipse systems maintain a Dongle ID that is associated with the frame itself and not CPU cards.
Passcode: is generated to fulfill an order for type 1 licenses. It is entered via the front panel, EHX or CCM of the hardware product in question to enable the licensed functions. Passcode can only be used for the specific hardware device it was ordered for.
Clear-Com License Type 2: Utilizes a licensing platform from WiBu, third-party vendor which is used in various industries, such as broadcast. Provides a flexible and secure mechanism to manage and protect product, function and capacity licenses on hardware and software products.
Used (as of 2021Q4) for Station-IC, AGENT-IC-LQ, LQ and E-IPA-HX.
License Ticket: Delivery mechanism of a license originally generated by Clear-Com to fulfill an order of licenses to a customer. May contain multiple different licenses. Additional licenses can be added to to an existing ticket if specified at the time of an order to simplify owners management of the license ticket.
Licenses can be moved from a License Ticket to a Device Container which activates products, functions, capacity in the device etc. For Station-IC, licenses can be moved from a computer to a License Ticket for transfer to another computer or storage for future use.
Example of a License Ticket: A79CM-GE4NV-R5RE6-4B9QS-ZBDWM
License Container: Contains and provides a guaranteed license validation of the the product, function, or capacity of the Device that hosts the license. Either embedded on the device (e.g. LQ, E-IPA) OR running in a standalone software (e.g. CodeMeter software application for Station-IC)
CodeMeter: Application for Windows and MacOS which holds a License Container that licenses can be transferred to from License Tickets via WebDepot. See Solution Finder article.
WebDepot: Online web portal that allows the extraction of license from a License Ticket to License Container, and for Station-IC from a License Container to a License Ticket. See Solution Finder article.
WebAdmin: Is a CodeMeter web server running on any computer running CodeMeter. Provides detailed information about installed licenses and troubleshooting tools. See Solution Finder article.
Event Licenses: Available for Station-IC and intended to be consumable licenses without much management for surge capacity, time-limited use etc. See Solution Finder article.
Subscription Licenses: Available for Station-IC and intended for ongoing use, subscription licenses allow for variable duration of the install and transferability. See Solution Finder article.
Permanent Licenses: Available for embedded devices such as the E-IPA and LQ.
File-based license transfer: WebDepot function that allows computer that cannot access the cloud base WebDepot to be licensed via unique context and license files. See Solution Finder article.
Auto-Update: Future function. See Solution Finder article.
