Antenna Alignment

Because the Edge Transceiver sends and receives data on both external antennas, it is recommended that you align the antennas a full 90 degrees from each other. This image illustrates the recommended orientation when hanging in the upright position.

Resetting Transceiver

If you need to reset the FS Edge Transceiver’s IP Addresses to DHCP, press and hold the Mode button for approximately 12 seconds until you see the LED start blinking red. The TCVR will reset and reboot leading to both the Admin and AES67 IP ports to DHCP.

Finding a Transceiver on a Network

Each TCVR broadcasts a IP multicast message onto the network once fully booted. You can search and identify the TCVR by using a mDNS lookup tool. Follow this link for additional information about finding a TCVR on your network and how to add to EHX.

LED Indicators and Mode Button

The FS Edge Transceiver uses a series of LED indicators to inform the user. This list explains what each indicator stands for.

Ingress Protection (IP) Rating and Orientation

The FS Edge Transceiver was designed to function without fans in order to increase the IP Rating of the device. To keep the unit cool, there are two chimneys with heat-sinks installed. This requires the unit to be oriented in the vertical position in order for air to travel over the heat-sinks correctly.

This transceiver has an ingress protection rating of IP53.

Dust: Ingress of dust is possible but not likely, and if it does enter, there is a small chance that it will interfere with the operation of the equipment.

Liquids: Water falling as a spray at an angle of up to 60 degrees from the vertical will not have a harmful effect. Water entering from the bottom of the transceiver could have a negative effect on the operation of the equipment.

It is important to note that if oriented correctly, your transceiver can handle some rain and mist when mounted outside.

PLEASE DO NOT PLACE A PLASTIC BAG AROUND THE TCVR AS THIS COULD LEAD TO OVERHEATING

Standalone Mode

The FS Edge Transceiver can be placed in Standalone Mode, formerly known as “Test Mode,” so you can test connectivity metrics in a room. To enter standalone, press and hold the Mode button before powering up the transceiver. While powering up, wait for the status LEDs to turn yellow, then release the Mode button. The transceiver will be in Standalone Mode after a few minutes.

Standalone Mode should not be used in a production environment and only for testing

AES67 Network Requirements

The FS Edge TCVR uses AES67 protocols for the connection to the matrix. This calls for specific network requirements, including:

  • QoS

  • IGMP Snooping

  • PTP Awareness

For additional information about the requirements and recommended switches, please follow this link.
