Question:  I'm making a CAT-5 cable to connect a HelixNet base station to a CellCom / Freespeak base station via 4-wire.
My question is, can I use an store bought Ethernet crossover cable or do I need to construct a special CAT-5 cable for this purpose?

Answer:  There is a difference in the wiring between an Ethernet crossover cable and a audio AUDIO crossover cable.  Clear-Com products typically use an audio crossover cable which is a specially wired CAT-5 cable where the audio pairs (green and blue) are switched at one end of the cable when an audio connect is established between two devices with 4-wire RJ45 connections.

An Ethernet CAT-5 cable is typically used to connect an Ethernet enabled device directly to a computer Ethernet jack.
